According to Bach's account in the 2021 HBO documentary "Tina," he first met the "Proud Mary" singer in 1986 when he was assigned to meet Turner at the airport in Dusseldorf.

"Her manager Roger asked me to pick up Tina," Bach explained. "The trip was fun for me. It was fun being the artist's driver. Actually, a superstar for us; I wasn't nervous at all, which is unusual. Just performing my job, that's all.

In 2013, Turner, who was 16 years older than Bach, sat down with Oprah Winfrey on "Oprah's Next Chapter" and discussed the two men's first encounter.

She said, "He was handsome in a different way; he had great eyes." My stomach dropped as soon as I got in the car with Erwin. I felt the moisture on my palms and exclaimed, "Oh, my God. A case of "love at first sight"
Later that year, the German-born Bach visited Turner and her manager Roger Davis in Los Angeles, where he and Turner rekindled their friendship over a meal.

John Briley, a music manager, was there as well. He told BBC News that he had questioned the celebrity, "John, I'm Tina Turner," why she had not brought a date. I never get asked out.

Briley claims that after Turner expressed interest in going out with Bach, Bach took the initiative and said, "Well, I'll ask you out."

After finishing their meal, Turner and Bach reportedly went to a club together rather than wait.

He continued by saying that the next day, Turner gave Bach a brand new black Mercedes G-Wagon as a surprise gift.After dating for only four years, Bach made his first attempt to propose to Turner on her 50th birthday.

He told Winfrey that by the time a woman reaches that age, she should have a "commitment" from her partner.

Although he did ask me, I didn't take it seriously. I didn't take him seriously the first two times he proposed," Turner said. But I didn't want to say no because I was interested in keeping things going between us.

Turner's longest relationship prior to Bach was with her musical colleague Ike Turner, whom she married from 1962 until 1976 and later said had been physically abusive towards her.The pair tied the knot in a civil ceremony at their house on the shores of Lake Zurich in Küsnacht, Switzerland, over 30 years after their first meeting.

One hundred and twenty people, including celebrities like Winfrey, Bryan Adams, Sade, and David Bowie, attended the ceremony.

There are reports that Adams' "All for Love," to which the bride walked down the aisle, served as the wedding march.

With no plans to "reside in the United States in the future," as reported by the US Embassy, Turner renounced her US citizenship and made Switzerland her permanent home the same year she got married. In her 2018 autobiography, "My Love Story," the Grammy-winning singer revealed that she had experienced a variety of health problems shortly after their wedding.

She went on to explain that three months after her wedding, she had a stroke, and that her life had been "on such a wild roller coaster that even I have difficulty keeping my medical catastrophes straight."

Turner recently stated that she was diagnosed with high blood pressure in 1978; this was the first time she had spoken publicly about her condition.

Turner's husband Erwin Bach surprised her in 2016 by offering to donate a kidney.

"He said he didn't want another woman, or another life," she said in her autobiography. Then he did something that completely floored me. One of his kidneys, he offered, "is mine if I want it."

The operation to replace the organ took place the year after. And in a blog article for Show Your Kidneys Love back in March, Turner discussed the fallout.

She said that her body fought against the new organ and "required more hospital admissions." Tuner said at the time of publication that "problems are still not quite resolved."
