In Case of No Emergency: The Films of Ruben Östlund

video thumbnail
One of Scandinavia’s most innovative directors, Sweden’s Ruben Östlund visits the Walker for the Filmmakers in Conversation series. Known for films that confront our prejudices while examining human behavior in everyday situations, Östlund returned from this year’s Cannes Film Festival with the Jury Prize for Force Majeure—an intimate look at ways that people cope with unexpected situations, set in a ski resort in the majestic French Alps. His interest in human responses and reactions under stress is also explored in his two previous features, Play and Involuntary were also screened at the Walker as part of the touring retrospective In Case of No Emergency: The Films of Ruben Östlund. Watch the post-screening discussion for the sold-out screening of Force Majeure with Dennis Lim, Director of Programming at Film Society Lincoln Center, New York.
