Join us for a webinar discussion as four women at EF, spanning ages, backgrounds, and timezones, share their journeys in the digital world, as well as advice on why others should pursue careers in technology. About the speakers: Dr. Emily Harburg is the Director of Emerging Technology and Education at EF Education First. She is passionate about building technology that helps people explore, understand, and connect in the world. Prior to joining EF, Emily co-founded a nonprofit called Brave Initiatives focused on helping girls build confidence in coding, design, and leadership for social impact. Prior to that she worked at Facebook as a research scientist, and at Walt Disney Imagineering where she designed technology for the Disney theme parks. She also co-founded Youth Lead the Change, a global youth leadership program for high school students. Emily graduated with a B.A. in Social Anthropology and Psychology from Harvard College, and with a Ph.D. in Technology and Social Behavior from Northwestern University. In her free time, she enjoys running, skiing, and playing volleyball! Yuko Nagakura is a 16-year-old high school student from Kyoto, Japan. After witnessing the lack of gender diversity in STEM fields at a young age, she became passionate about women's equality both in education and in the workforce. Yuko is the founder of SHEQUALITY, a social platform to empower young women, where she and 12 other young women around the world share articles on feminism weekly. She is also a student founding member of World Coding Club, a Japanese non-profit organization that works to increase the participation of underrepresented youth in the world of coding. Ashwini Balram grew up as an academic Whiz Kid, then transitioned from commerce to computer science with the urge to transform lives with technology and a strong belief in building a co-existing conscious planet. Having led and worked with multiple teams in Bengaluru, she is now a Business Analyst in Language Technology. At present, she is working on helping small-time community feeders and animal shelters reach out to bigger audiences with the help of social media. Cecilia Andersson grew up as a digital native, and her passion for everything digital formed her career. From competing in computer games at the biggest events as a 14-year-old, she is today working as the Global Digital Director at EF. Her mission is to help organizations find and keep the worlds best tech talent and make the scene more inclusive. As an industry leader at Hyper Island, she is also dedicated to helping the next generation of digital super talents. Originally recorded live on Jul 28, 2021.
