STARSHIP: Big changes and surprising requirements from the FAA |
|
We finally have a path to launching starship from Boca Chica.
Elon Musk says SpaceX will have Starship "ready to fly" in July, after reviewing the company's progress in person yesterday. "We will have a second Starship stack ready to fly in August and then monthly thereafter." SpaceX will now have to complete environmental impact requirements outlined by the Federal Aviation Administration. SpaceX had hoped to conduct the Starship orbital flight test last year— But as many of you know we’ve experienced multiple delays in development and regulatory approval… However instead of another delay, on June 13th, we finally got the conclusion from the FAA’s environmental assessment. SpaceX is tasked with completing about 75 mitigation requirements before applying for the launch license required for the flight test. SpaceX made changes to its Starbase plans, removing the below infrastructure: - desalination plant - natural gas pretreatment system - liquefier - power plant But of those over 75 additional protective measures, there are some surprising ones on the list. Including: – Report on the Mexican and Civil wars – highway pull-off & platform for viewing wildlife – Starlink-powered wildlife viewing -- SpaceX employee shuttle from the city of Brownsville to Starbase Also: – daily inspections during turtling hatching season – road closure limitations during holidays and weekends – quarterly beach cleanups _______________________ Hi!
