Ironically, both Buffet and Gates formerly held the world's richest position. So does he get along with the A-listers? Or are other billionaires treating Musk like the silent child in the back row?

Elon Musk has already ascended to the top of the world's billionaire list. Of course, if it weren't for their charitable contributions, Gates and Buffett would be substantially closer to Elon in the wealth rankings. Both have donated vast amounts of money to charity over the years, while Elon has been chastised for not donating much of his immense wealth.

Musk had previously said that he prefers to stay anonymous while donating money, and early this year he requested Twitter followers for "critical feedback" on potential donation options. This year, Musk also promised to donate $150 million, including a $100 million reward in a carbon removal competition, a sum that Recode believes is more than all of his prior charity contributions put together.
