Directed by DANI MENKIN.
In 1976, African American Aulcie Perry was playing basketball in Harlem when scouts from Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv spotted and signed him. A year later, he led the team to their first European Championship, converted to Judaism, and become an Israeli citizen. His rise to fame was precipitous, and his relationship with supermodel Tami Ben Ami became the subject of relentless media attention, solidifying his status as one of Israel’s biggest stars. Hidden from the world, his growing drug addiction culminated in his arrest and imprisonment. Upon his release from prison, Aulcie committed himself to uplifting those suffering from drug abuse and addiction. From two-time Israeli-academy-award-winner and Doc Edge Alumni Dani Menkin (39 Pounds of Love, Dolphin Boy, Picture of His Life), this is the story of a remarkable athlete and how he ultimately triumphed, despite the odds. Doc Edge Festival 2021 will be in theatres (Auckland and Wellington) and online nationwide from 3 June until 11 July. Full programme release and tickets on sale, Tuesday 27 April. https://docedge.nz Doc Edge has received filmmaker permission to upload this trailer to the Doc Edge YouTube channel. |
