India has conveyed its displeasure to Canada over the upcoming Khalistani referendum. Indian envoy to Ottawa, Sanjay Kumar Verma, flagged the issue with the Canadian Foreign Ministry in a formal communiqué. He said, "The illegal 'referendum' by Sikh for Justice, an organisation proscribed under the unlawful association prevention act of India, is a futile effort by those who want to derail the Canada-India relationship."
