Every Man Needs a Mother, Wife, Sister Then Why Not a Daughter?
According to the report of USAID in 2014, More than 6 Cr 20 lacs girls around the world had no access to education. Globally, one in four girls are married before the age of 18. In India 48.4% girls wished they were boys. Still we celebrate International Girl child Day on 11th October every year. Why??
In this video I will talk about 'International Girl Child Day'. 11th Oct is the International Girl child Day. It was first celebrated on 2012 by the United Nations. In India, the national girl child day is celebrated every year on 24th Jan since 2008.
This celebration was started to offer more supports and new opportunities to the girls and to increase awareness among the people about the gender inequality faced by girls worldwide. This inequality includes areas such as
access to education,
nutrition,
legal rights,
medical care,
protection from discrimination,
violence against women
child marriage and so many.
As per the report of UNICEF, 1 in 10 girls have experienced forced sexual acts. That's about 120 million girls under 20 worldwide. A third of them are between the age of 15 and 19 and married, and have been victims of emotional, physical or sexual violence committed by their husbands or partners. In most of the cases, the incident remains unreported and their issues become "invisible". Now, in today’s society we often see that many girls around the world are vulnerable to acts of sexual violence and the perpetrators often go unpunished.
Various events to promote the The International Girl Child Day are planned in several countries. In the first year the theme was "Ending child marriage", in the second year, in 2013, was "innovating for girls’ education" and in this year the theme is “My voice, our equal future”. And in India the theme of this year national girl child was “Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow”. Our WB govt also had taken the good initiative called #KanyashreeProkolpo .
So Govt had taken some remarkable steps. Although women have reached to the peak of success today but still there are gaps which must be covered. So now it’s our turn to address the issues. At the end of the video I just want to spread the message to respect girl child, respect women, give them their legal rights and give them their freedom to take decisions of their own life. After all we are here, because of them.
