Burping is a very common problem. Burp means you are removing the gas from your stomach. One it can be due to the more gas production that is happening in the stomach. One it can be due to the ingestion of air. Due to speaking taking we are taking in air, this is called as aerophagia. Second is because of any gastric problem, H.Pylori infection or small intestine bacteria which produce excessive gas and these patients they try to remove the gas through the mouth this is what is called as burping and sometimes people also produce more gas from down but by and large people have to understand that it is because of the air they inhale. Most of the patients if we ask, they burp when they are awake and when they sleep the burping disappears. This indicates they are taking more air or gas inside. This is the reason for burping. If there is burping what we do is we give them gastric medications and make them understand that you are taking gas inside and we tell them take breath inside and hold and slowly hold so that the habit of burping stop and we treat them for gastric, if there is an H. pylori infection we treat, if there is a small intestine bacterial overload which we detect by a breath test and we find it out and we treat them with medications so that the burping stops.
