Royal Romances- My Top Four |
|
A video made for my four favourite royal love affairs, just my opinion, so try not to criticise, disclaimer on the song and all photos, so here's my top four, in order of appearence-
Tsar Nicholas II and The Tsarina Alexandra- They met at her sister's wedding when she was 12 and he was 16, it was a love affair that lasted till their deaths and is considered one of the greatest romances of the 20th century. They had 5 children and despite pressure from the unstable political situation in Russia and their son's life threatening disease their marriage stayed strong and extremley passionate- something shown through their wartime love letters discovered after their deaths. In 1917 the Tsar was forced to abdicate and the following summer he, his wife and children were all murdered. They were canonized as saints. At least they died together, something noted by King George V- who said thaty one could not have lived without the other. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. She has not loved anyone else since the age of 13 when they first met, and despite her parents being strongly against the match she outgunned them and married the man she loved at the age of 21. The pair had 4 children and have 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild with another expected in just over a month. She will celebrate 60 years on the throne this years, he already, at 90, being the longest serving or living consort in British History, it is, a true love story as they embark on celebrating their 65th year of marriage. Grand Duke Sergei of Russia and Grand Duchess Elisabeth- It was at their wedding that Tsar Nicholas II met his future wife. However far more complex was their love story, despite having no children their love was plain to see and on his assassination in 1905 "Ella" became a nun, giving away valuable jewelley an working endlessly for charities. In 1918 she was murdered during the Bolshevik revolution and later canonized as a holy matyr and saint, her statue stands today over the entrance of Westminster Abbey. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen mother- despite several marriage proposals to her previously, Elizabeth finally accepted and the pair married. She herself, admitted that she fell in love with him after they were married, but that didn't stop it not only becoming a deep love affair, but also a strong partnership and leadership for Britain during the second world war. The pair had two children, Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen Elizabeth II, and Princess Margaret Rose. He died in 1952, and his beloved wife wasn't to join him for another 50 years, just short of her 102nd birthday. |
