Presented by Miguel Marino, PhD, Associate Professor
Oregon Health & Science University Opportunities to address racial and ethnic health disparities and inequities often rely on broad racial categories (e.g. “Black or African American,” “Hispanic or Latino,” “Asian and Pacific Islander,” etc.). However, the immense diversity of the U.S. population suggests need for granular representation of race/ethnicity to fully capture nuanced experiences that could greatly influence outcomes in these populations and lead to culturally specific medical and public health approaches to addressing disparities. This talk will provide some historical and current background on this topic and illustrate a novel electronic health record approach to data disagreggation of Latino subgroups in a population of children seeking care at community health centers. |
