A crucial meeting between farmer leaders and Union ministers ended without a resolution late Monday night, prompting farmers to press ahead with their 'Delhi Chalo' protest today.
Despite hours of dialogue, the two sides failed to reach an agreement on key demands. The government, however, said a consensus was reached on most issues and a formula was proposed for resolving some others through the formation of a committee.
In anticipation of the farmers’ agitation, the Delhi Police have ramped up security measures, imposing restrictions on gatherings and fortifying borders to maintain order.
Border crossings linking Delhi to its surrounding satellite towns are heavily congested due to numerous diversions ahead of the large-scale farmers' march towards the national capital. Long lines of vehicles were observed at the Ghazipur and Chilla borders, linking Delhi with Ghaziabad and Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

Protesting farmers from Haryana and Punjab began their march towards Delhi on Tuesday. Known as 'Chalo Delhi' march, more than 200 farmers' unions are expected to head to Delhi to press the Centre to accept their demands, including a guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP). The government held a late-night meeting with the farmers on Monday, but negotiations remained inconclusive as the farmers said their protest would go as planned. Meanwhile, police have put up concrete barriers, barricades and barbed wires to prevent the farmers from entering Delhi. Advisories on vehicle movement have been issued for Delhi and NCR and traffic jams are expected today.
