On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (December 20th, 2016) John Campea, Kristian Harloff, Mark Ellis, Natasha Martinez discuss the following:
1) Blade Runner 2049 teaser 2) Disney first studio ever to hit $7 billion at box office 3) Opening this week 4) John Wick Chapter 2 Trailer and poster 5) Thor: Ragnarok to include Planet Hulk’s Sakaar 6) Gareth Edwards used unused footage from New Hope for Rogue One 7) Star Wars Release Dates 8) R Rated Batman Movie The first trailer and plot synopsis has been revealed for Blade Runner 2049. Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years. The movie is directed by Arrival’s Denis Villeneuve, and produced by original director Ridley Scott. It’s set for release on October 6, 2017. Disney announced yesterday that the studio hit an industry first by becoming the first studio ever to reach $7 billion at the global box office. The milestone comes on the heels of a huge $290 million global debut for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The numbers include strong showings by The Jungle Book, Finding Dory, Captain America: Civil War, Zootopia, Doctor Strange and Moana. OPENING THIS WEEK BUY OR SELL A new trailer has been released for John Wick: Chapter 2 and to coincide with the release Collider.com was given an exclusive poster to debut from Lionsgate Films. The poster features Keanu Reeves’ ex-hitman with the new tag line: “Never stab the devil in the back.” Chad Stahelski, one half of the directing team behind John Wick, takes the helm solo this time with the movie set to hit theatres on February 10, 2017. It was confirmed a while back that the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok would be using elements from the fan-favorite comic series Planet Hulk. Now, in the latest issue of Total Film (via a report from MCU Exchange) director Taika Waititi has confirmed that the planet Sakaar will be central to the film. “Sakaar was just an insane, far-off, futurtistic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters,” the director said. In a new interview with Radio Times, Gareth Edwards revealed that he integrated unseen Star Wars: A New Hope footage into the climactic battle sequence found in Rogue One. While Edwards was touring Skywalker Ranch, he discovered the original footage from the Battle of Yavin, which he then digitized and inserted into the movie. From there, Edwards reworked the script to incorporate the unused dialogue while ILM digitally inserted the actors into updated cockpits.
