BEST NES SOUNDTRACKS EVER!?

video thumbnail
The Nintendo Entertainment System may have been simple by today's standards, but it definitely had some amazing music and soundtracks. Here are five of my favorite game soundtracks from the NES in no particular order.

Honorable mentions
The Mega Man Series
All of the Mega Man or Rock Man games have amazing audio, but I think they're just overdone a little bit. I appreciate the fact that YT Cracker used one of the Mega Man themes for his song Mega Nerd, but I think I like that song better for his remix versus the actual track in the game. If you've never heard it, check it out

Castlevania Series
Again, the NES music for Castlevania is terrific, for me why they didn't make this list is the fact that the Famicom disc system versions sound so much better. And, peeking behind the curtain, I will be doing a separate ranking of Famicom soundtracks in the future.

Metal Storm
Metal Storm is an amazing game from Irene that Retro-bit re-released several years ago. I still remember seeing that cover from Nintendo power, I wondered what Skyfire was doing in a Nintendo game!? That ended up being one of my favorite games for the NES of all time, and also features just some amazing music. Level two is probably my favorite, but it's all so good.

Darkwing Duck
Capcom absolutely nailed making beautiful soundtracks on the NES, and this is just the first Capcom game you are going to see. I loved the chiptune version of the Darkwing Duck theme, and the other level themes are amazing as well. Quackerjack's theme is probably my favorite out of all of them, but there's not a bad one in the bunch

Gyruss
It's not as good as the Famicom disk system version, but Gyruss on the NES is still full of classic music. Literally, they used classical music as the baseline for a lot of their music throughout the different levels. I love the way the bass hits, and I've always loved bass players like Flea, Getty lee, and of course the greatest bassists of all-time, Less Claypool with his 6-string fretless Carl Thompson bass with a whammy bar.

DuckTales
Much like Darkwing duck, DuckTales has some of the best and most iconic music on the system, and that came pretty early in the life cycle of the NES. I know many people talk about the moon level, and don't get me wrong it's fantastic, but the entire game again has just amazing audio.

Super Mario Bros 3
Does it get much better than Super Mario 3 on the NES? From the title screen to the first level to the boss battle with Bowser, for me, it doesn't get much better than Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES. Regarding iconic themes, Super Mario Bros and DuckTales are really neck and neck, but I have to give the edge to Super Mario 3 as far as my favorite soundtrack on the NES.
