video thumbnail
“Pseudosceintific critters” are parasites that consume the resources of the unprepared. Although they have adapted camflauge to appear as scientific evidence-based practice, they can be detected by those who know the signs. In this TEDx Talk, learn how to spot Science’s arch nemesis, Pseudoscience! Based on observations from the field of autism education and treatment, this talk challenges viewers to identify logical fallacies and magical thinking in their own life by examining examples of pseudoscientific products from the past and present. Dr. Russell Lang is the Executive Director of the Clinic for Autism Research, Evaluation and Support (CARES) at Texas State University. He has authored numerous books and over a 150 scientific peer-reviewed articles. This research focuses on the identification of evidence-based practices for the education and treatment of people with neurodevelopmental disorders. He is the recipient of Texas State University’s Presidential Award for Excellence in Research and the Association of Positive Behavioral Supports Ted Carr Initital Research Award. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
