video thumbnail
In this thoughtful and sensitive talk, sociolinguist Dr Jaspal Singh examines how we, literally, talk about gender and how becoming a parent affects that. Dr Jaspal Naveel Singh is a lecturer in linguistics at the Open University. His research is about how language shapes our understandings of gender, sexuality and race.

Jaspal’s first book “Transcultural Voices” traces the beginnings of hip hop culture in urban India. Jaspal lives in Cardiff and has recently become a father to a small baby.
