300 Subscriber Spartan Special! Part I - The Story Behind The Real Sparta & The Real 300 Spartans |
|
Hi everybody. I'm excited to bring you this first video in the new playlist European History Lecture Series, and the first video in a mini-series on the development of Spartan society and politics.
In this video titled 300 Subscriber Spartan Special! Part I - The Story Behind The Real Sparta & The Real 300 Spartans, we begin our journey to find out the truth about Sparta. This series will tell the story behind the real 300 Spartans led by King Leonidas who fought and died at the Battle of Thermopylae. But because of Sparta's unique society, a society devoted to a creating a citizenry of elite soldiers, the story of these men is the story of Sparta itself. After all, that act of self-sacrifice is what they and Sparta are most famous for. It strikes me then that understanding the Spartan constitution is the most important thing one can do, to understand Sparta and the Spartan themselves. And in this video series, that is exactly what we are going to do. This first part will look at the very early history and geography of Sparta. We'll cover Ancient Greek mythology, Ancient Greek history and Spartan history in particular, and Spartan geography, the landscape that will shape Spartan thought and no doubt help King Leonidas of Sparta form his Thermopylae battle plan in the Greco-Persian wars. I hope you enjoy this European history lecture and if you would like to see more please like, share and subscribe. I'm not very surprised at this point after my fighting with Google. I will see if I can get it up and running again but since I don't use Facebook otherwise, I lose the will a tad. You can still follow me at Twitter or Parler. I prefer the latter since I can write up to 1000 characters. Twitter forces you to be extreme with 140 and I find it pointless other than for posting video updates. Anyhoo, thanks. |
