In today’s video we’re going to be discussing how to retire early from investing in the S&P500, the financial independence retire early (FIRE) movement is one that is quickly gaining traction as people continue to pursue their quest to live life on their own terms and achieve true financial freedom, but how can you actually retire early?

First we need to understand your financial goals and income requirements. The average desired income in retirement currently is £34,000 (c.$50,000), with the general rule of thumb being you’ll need 25x your desired annual income to see you through retirement, this would mean an investment portfolio or retirement pot of £850,000… today - this doesn’t account for inflation, let me explain..

The S&P500 is a collection of the top 500 companies in the United States of America tracked under the index. In order to invest in the S&P500 you can invest into something called an ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) which you can get over on Vanguard UK or Trading212 under the Vanguard VUSA S&P500 ETF. It’s an investment thats provided huge returns over the past few decades and why its certainly considered to be one of the best investments the average investor could make according to Warren Buffet.

Only investing into the S&P500 or indeed any single investment is whats also known as putting all your eggs in one basket. This is of course fine for some investors who just want to take the passive investing strategy approach, but for me personally (and this is just my personal approach), i’m looking to take a little more of an active role in my investments. Investing into property, individual stocks, along with cryptocurrency in order to maximise the return on investment i’m able to achieve.
