Ryan Holiday stated that the aim of this book isn't about pulverizing the ego completely, it aims to aid in taming & managing ego just like thoughts & emotions. Recall: 1- Early Boastfulness: Ego is an intrinsic part of yourself & so its manifestation is natural. The ego often shows up when you first start out on any kind of endeavor, be it a start-up, a craft, a skill you wish to master etc. The ego's manifestation is often subconscious, you begin to crave being good from the start & you're not even aware that you are doing this. For this reason, before starting out on anything, you should admit that you're going to suck & even if you progress a bit, you should always retain humility & continually, realistically assess your level of progress. Keep in mind that there is always room for improvement. 2- Actual Work versus Talk & hype: If you find yourself more concerned with your facebook & twitter than your actual work then the ego has got you. Ego grows from you boasting & feeling good about yourself doing tiny tasks "related to your work" such as responding to emails, sharing micro-content on your fan-page, twitter page, watching videos about your craft etc. Now that you've become aware of this, simply unplug the stimulus, the dirty highs you get from these tiny tasks & sit down do your actual work.
