In 2019, the Liberal Party promised voters, if elected, they would plant a whopping 2 billion trees across Canada by 2030. The plan saw new nature as a major way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Now, seven years away from their deadline, a new report from Canada's environment commissioner says the federal government isn't even on track to get four per cent of the promised trees in the ground.
