Top 20 Irish Slides (Slow) on Tenor Banjo, with notes |
![]() |
Another video featuring top 20 tunes of a type -- slides this time -- on irishtune.info's "session popularity" list, recorded slowly (100 BPM) with a metronome. Slides are a type of dance tune common in the southwest of Ireland played significantly faster than jigs (about 150 BPM), and notated in 12/8 time. I use some variations and ornamentation that you might encounter at a session. Therefore, the sheet music onscreen won't exactly match what I play. Here is the tune list:
0:00 Intro 0:16 #20: Where is the Cat? (G) 2:20 #19: Hare in the Corn (G) 4:23 #18: Micho Russell's (D) 6:26 #17: Weaver's (D) 8:28 #16: Cat Rambles to the Child's Saucepan (D) 10:31 #15: Eileen O'Riordan's (A mix) 12:35 #14: Toormore (Bm) 14:40 #13: Connie Walsh's (D) 16:41 #12: Hundred Pipers (A) 18:45 #11: Palm Sunday (Am) 20:47 #10: Patsy Geary's (D) 22:51 #9: Going to the Well for Water (D) 24:53 #8: Brosna (G) 26:54 #7: Denis Murphy's (D) 28:55 #6: Dingle Regatta (G)* 31:54 #5: Old Favourite (G) 33:58 #4: Star Above the Garter (D mix) 35:59 #3: Merrily Kissed the Quaker (G) 38:58 #2: O'Keeffe's (Am) 40:58 #1: Road to Lisdoonvarna (Em) --------------------------------- * Dingle Regatta existed in two locations (#9 and #12) on the Slides list, with one entry being the similar but less common 2-part slide also known as Quarry Cross. As many members may have included the alternate Dingle Regatta in their repertoires intending to mark the 3-part tune, I combined their totals to bring DR up to #6 and added the next most common slide I could find in the database, Where is the Cat, at #20.
