Graphene has attracted great interest in the field of supercapacitor research due to its 2D structure, which affords outstanding properties such as superior electrical conductivity and mechanical properties, as well as a larger surface area than carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Furthermore, unlike other carbon materials, graphene is highly optimal for supercapacitor applications as its surface area does not vary as a function of pore size distribution and offers electrolyte access to both surfaces.

Okay, but do we understand Supercapacitors in general? How are they different from the general capacitor?

Supercapacitors, also known as ultracapacitors, double-layer capacitors, or electrochemical capacitors, are a type of energy storage system that has attracted many experts in recent years. In simple terms, they can be represented as a cross between a simple capacitor and a battery; however, they are different from the two.

The basic capacitor usually consists of two metal plates separated by an insulator. During charging, electrons collect on one wire and are deflected by another. One side gets a negative charge while the other builds a positive one. The insulator breaks the natural attraction of negative charges to positive charges and this voltage creates an electric field. Once the electron makes space on the other side, discharge occurs.
