Gerrie Jacobus Booysen was born on the 9 August 1976 in Bloemfontein. Gerrie Booysen is the Director of the Centre for Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing at the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He obtained his master’s degree in 2007 from the CUT (cum laude), which focused on bridge tooling using additive manufacturing technologies. His research focused on rapid and hybrid tooling applications using additive manufacturing technologies. He was the author/co-author of 14 articles concerning rapid prototyping and product development in accredited academic journals. He read papers on product development and rapid tooling at numerous local and international conferences. His main achievements include best BTech Mechanical engineering student in 1999 and best postgraduate student in the Engineering Faculty and received the S2A3 Bronze medal in 2007. He also received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for best postgraduate student at the university in 2007. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
