Five Alarm American democracy | Wally Siewert | TEDxGatewayArch

video thumbnail
Listen as Dr. Wally Siewert challenges the audience’s moral framework and the state of American Democracy. With a Ph.D. in political philosophy and ethics and over a decade of experience in civic and political engagement, Dr. Siewert is uniquely equipped to apply the clarifying frameworks of political and moral theory to real-world political controversy. Wally Siewert has two central interests: Governance and Education.

He has explored public policy from the street level, as a community organizer, from the office-holder level, as a state-legislature lobbyist and campaigner, and at the abstract level, as an academic political theorist. His goal is to do some small part to make sure that the future of the human social endeavor benefits from hard-won lessons.
He believes that education is probably the only true social silver bullet. It is negatively correlated with virtually all-pervasive social ills, from poverty and crime to pollution. As an educator and as a citizen he works to continue the American tradition of universal education and civic engagement.

His specialties are Social Justice, The Ethics of the democratic (small d) Political Process, health care and energy policy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
