Retro FIFA Simulations is all about CPU vs CPU matches and simulations on older FIFAs.

By recreating fixtures, whole tournaments and Manager Mode Careers, our goal is to simulate the outcome of matches and show gameplay features of older FIFAs.

We’re currently planning multiple series on FIFA 09, FIFA 10, FIFA 13, FIFA 16, FIFA 17, FIFA 20 and FIFA 21.

► Idea - Bundesliga 2020/2021 Series:

- This particular series is focused on the 2020/2021 Bundesliga Campaign. It’s a simulation of all of the Bundesliga league games in FIFA 09 to create a semi-realistic tournament feeling.
- All games are simulated/played CPU vs CPU on Professional difficulty and with 6 minute halves in FIFA 09.
- All updates on player ratings, rosters and formations are made via Creation Master 09 (more down below). This series was started in March 2021, so all winter transfers, player ratings and formations begin during that time and progress through the following months.
- Even though CPU vs CPU in Tournament Mode is possible on FIFA 09, Kick-Off Mode is used to simulate all games since Tournaments would crash everytime players or team rosters get updated via Creation Master 09.
- Gameplay is recorded via XBox Game Bar on Windows 10, however only highlights like goals, shots on goal, red cards etc. are in the videos.

► Player Ratings & Likenesses:

- All player ratings are based on the current FIFA 21 player ratings on https://sofifa.com/.
- When the website is updated with new ratings (around 3 times per month), Creation Master 09 is used to update ratings in FIFA 09.
- Should a player’s overall rating come out differently than on https://sofifa.com/, the primary attributes of the player (stats that determine overall rating) are lowered or pushed. The overall seen in the team lineup at the beginning of each match depends on the position. E.g. a Left Midfielder might be lower rated when playing at the CAM position.
- Since there is no possibility to import players and ratings to older FIFA titles, updating players and teams is done manually. To create the full Bundesliga roster, two days of work were needed.
- Creating faces of players is also a manual task. Since most of the currently active players weren’t in FIFA 09 the players usually don’t look like they do in real life.
- The default FIFA 09 Stadiums and Jerseys are being used.

► Roster & Formations:

- The team rosters and formations are also based on the data on https://sofifa.com/. Additionally, rosters and formations from https://www.transfermarkt.com/ are taken into consideration.

► Lineups, Injuries, Bookings:

- There is no intention of using the same lineups as in real-life matches. Real-life injuries, bookings and other reasons why players miss out on matches aren’t taken into consideration.
- Teams always start with the players with the highest overall rating for each position in the starting lineup. If a player gets injured in a game, a dice is rolled to determine how many games the injured player will miss out on (1-6 games).
- Players also miss out on games due to bookings. For red cards, players are suspended for the two following games. After every second yellow card, players are suspended for one game. This system forces squad rotation and helps make lineups of the participating teams more interesting.
