"Personal Health Technologies for Older Adults and their Families" - George Demiris PhD, FACMI

With emerging technologies, new personal health tools are designed that have the potential to support older adults to remain independent in the resident of their choice, and to empower older adults and their families to play an active role in managing their health. This talk will provide a discussion of various ongoing and completed research initiatives examining the role of sensor-based passive monitoring systems that create “smart home” solutions for older adults, the design of personal health portals for older adults and their families, and the use of digital conversational agents to address social isolation. We will highlight practical and ethical implications as well as a framework to examine the obtrusiveness of such technologies.
