Storytime with Storyman:
Bushido, the Soul of Japan. Bushido means "the way of the warrior", that is, of the samurai. Basically, it is the Japanese version of European chivalry. It is the ethics and training and thinking of the samurai. The book shows how the ways of the samurai still have a great influence in modern Japan. It was written at the very end of the 19th century, but it is still applicable in most points today. This book is what made me get reinterested in recording audiobooks, and in starting this Youtube channel. If you're interested in Japan, or things Japanese, you should read or listen to this book. There is a public domain version of this audiobook, that shows up quite a lot, and although it's well done, I was not fully satisfied with it, and I wanted to record it. I hope you will enjoy it with me. I have dedicated the reading of this book to Osamu Kobayashi, a dear friend who first encouraged me to read it. Inazo Nitobe, the author was quite well known in Japan, and elsewhere. He appeared on the old Y5,000 banknote, and he was an Under-Secretary General when the League of Nations was established in 1920. This book was originally written in English, and later translated into Japanese and other languages. I have divided it up roughly into his topic headings. He does not have chapter numbers, but topic headings in bold in the book. Here in Part one are the prefaces, Bushido as an Ethical System, and Sources of Bushido. This is an audiobook, read by storyman. If you would like to read along, and particularly if you are studying English, you might enjoy downloading the text to this video.
