Naʽat (Bengali: নাত, Urdu: نعت) is poetry in praise of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad. The practice is popular in South Asia (Bangladesh, Pakistan and India), commonly in Bengali, Punjabi or Urdu. People who recite Naʽat are known as Naʽat Khawan or sanaʽa-khuaʽan.

Naat-e-Rasu(Sallahu Alahe wasalum)l is a way to praise our beloved prophet in the form of poetry or rhymes. Reading Naat gives heartburns to the Munkir-e-Milad and once again they show their animosity against Naat by calling Naat Khawah Mushrikand Bidatti etc

The word hamd comes from Arabic root `h,m,d` and it literally means to praise. ... The word naat, too, is an Arabic word and it also means `praise`, but in Urdu naat means the praise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)while hamdis for Allah.

The word mehfil derives from the Arabic word mehfil (Arabic: محفل), which means a (festive) "gathering to entertain (or praise someone)." Mehfil-e-Naat is an Islamic mehfil (forum) in which people sit and recite poetry in the praise of the Prophet Muhammad.


نعت (بنگالی: নাত, اردو: নাত) اسلامی پیغمبر محمد کی تعریف میں شاعری ہے۔ یہ مشق جنوبی ایشیا (بنگلہ دیش، پاکستان اور ہندوستان) میں عام طور پر بنگالی، پنجابی یا اردو میں مقبول ہے۔ جو لوگ نعت پڑھتے ہیں انہیں نعت خواں یا ثنا خوان کہا جاتا ہے۔
