3 Phases of Design Thinking - Define, Design, and Deploy |
|
Design Thinking teachings focus on reframing the problem from the customer's perspective (define), applying empathy to create human-centered solutions (design), and testing ideas through experimentation (deploy).
Define Phase: The primary objective of the define phase is to reframe the problem or opportunity through the eyes of the end-user. This perspective and deeper understanding help to humanize business challenges, providing context for innovation and opening the door for value creation. During the define phase of the process, the team participates in two key activities: Empathize - Establish empathy for the customer and understand the customer's experience through ethnographic research. Define Point of View - Gain clarity on what is important to the customer and what motivates them to do what they do. Design Phase: During the design phase, the main focus is to create solutions that will satisfy the customer's stated and unstated needs. During this phase, the designers are trying to apply innovative thinking to create a solution that is desired by the customer, beneficial to the business, and feasible to implement. This phase challenges the team to take their ideas from paper to reality through multiple cycles of prototyping. As ideas come to life, the team is going beyond what exists today and creating a future reality using their imagination. During the design phase of the process, the team participates in two key activities: Ideate - Generate a list of solutions that will solve the customer's problem and help them achieve their goal. Prototype - Create a working solution through a series of trial and error experiments. Deploy Phase: During the design phase, the main focus is to create solutions that will satisfy the customer's stated and unstated needs.
