Mischa Elman plays Tartini/Kreisler: "Variations on a Theme of Corelli"

video thumbnail
Mischa Elman (1891 - 1967) and Fritz Kreisler (1875 - 1962) were two well-known recording violinists in the early part of the 20. century whose popularity diminished as their older, more "romantic" style grew out of fashion. Although Elman's early discs display a much tighter technical grasp of the instrument, his LPs give a rare insight into what this style of performance sounds like when heard through the full spectrum of sound.

Here Elman performs Kreisler's arrangement of Tartini's "Variations on a Theme of Corelli".
