See approximate timestamps in description below.
Recharge and reconnect with your future self as we start the new year! Hear from University community members for inspiration, good will, and practical strategies for moving forward. The past year has brought huge changes to student life, and we invite you to take some time to reflect on what’s important to you and to plan your path ahead.
This virtual event, hosted by Associate Dean Tabitha Enoch, starts with “Why is This So Hard?”, (at 5:50) where you will hear about the research on motivation and learning, what’s made recent months hard for students, and how you can reframe these challenges in order to pursue personal and academic well-being. This conversation will include Professor Chris Hulleman and doctoral student Lee Williams (’18, ’20) of the Motivate Lab, and will be moderated by Barbara Zunder of UVA Student Health.
Next up are several mini-talks by University experts:
(at 48:30) "Connecting with Faculty Members: How, Why, and What on Earth Does this Mean?", with Christy Rotman, College Life Skills Coach, joined by faculty members Dave Kittlesen and Brian Helmke
(at 1:03) "Do My Grades Matter?", with Blake Calhoun, Assistant Director of Undergraduate Success in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
(at 1:19)"How Can You Explore Majors and Your Academic Interests Remotely?", with Rachel Most, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs in the College of Arts and Sciences
(at 1:38) "Work Smarter, Not Harder (Online)", with Gabrielle, Sela, and Erica from the OAAA Peer Advisor Program
(at 1:53) "FOMO in Times of Chaos: So What Do I Do Now?", with Andrus Ashoo, Director of the Office of Citizen Scholar Development
