Opening Universities for Refugees | Gül İnanç | TEDxNTU |
|
There are more than 22.5 million refugees worldwide. Half of them are young adults, with limited access to post-primary education, without the right to work and unable to plan their futures. Education is a basic human right, alongside food, shelter and safety. Hence, it is our responsibility as a society to provide them with the opportunity to obtain the necessary education to improve their conditions. Gül İnanç is a lecturer at School of Art, Design and Media, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Her areas of interest and expertise include: modern diplomatic history of West Asia, intercultural education for peace, contemporary religious art and architecture. She has been teaching art history since 2013 and has been awarded Koh Boon Hwee Scholar in 2016. She is the founder of Opening Universities for Refugees. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
