Celtic are right to withhold Scotland players for Sydney Super Cup |
|
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has told his international stars that they'll be joining him Down Under for the Sydney Super Cup - but he'll be missing some familiar faces.
It's a homecoming for Postecoglou as he takes his Scottish Premiership side back to his homeland for clashes with Sydney FC and Everton on November 17 and 20. The tournament comes as Scotland boss Steve Clarke names his squad for next week's friendly in Turkey on Wednesday. But it won't include any Celtic players, with Hoops boss Postecoglou ruling they will play in the money-spinning tournament. Greg Taylor, David Turnbull, Tony Ralston and James Forrest would all have been in contention. Postecoglou said: The international games coming up are not compulsory for us to release players. From our perspective, the Australian trip is an important part of our club and we want to take our strongest possible team. We will always be supportive of the national team and Steve Clarke has been great in terms of his relationship with the club. But all of our players who aren’t going to the World Cup will be coming with us. The Record Celtic Podcast discussed why Celtic are right to withhold Scotland players for Sydney Super Cup.
