As a student in Seattle, Anjelica Valenzuela changed her vision of “normal” when she transferred from a low-income public school to a private school that included the top 1%. With vulnerability, candor, and humor, Anjelica shares how when we embrace the uncomfortable and broaden our perspectives, we appreciate who we are and what we can become. Anjelica Valenzuela (she/her) is a 15-year-old student from Seatac, Washington. She is a rising sophomore in Seattle and is passionate about law, human rights and social justice, as well as learning about people and the way they view life. Having been raised by her neighbor, grandmother, sister, and brother, she views home as her community and is excited to share a new perspective on how the way she and others have been raised has impacted the connections between different communities, as well as how taking risks and making sacrifices can lead to a brighter future and a better understanding of others This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
