2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6: Streamlining the Korean firm's electric car offering |
|
When we say that the Ioniq 6 is streamlining Hyundai's electric car offering, we don't mean that it's slimming it down: quite the opposite, in fact. No, what we mean is that, while the existing Ioniq 5 hatchback has a rather blunt, upright design, its new stablemate, the Ioniq 6 saloon, has a smoother, swoopier, more streamlined design (the firm actually calls the car a 'streamliner') for improved aerodynamic efficiency, and at the same time the car doubles Hyundai's portfolio of all-electric offerings.
Despite the contrasting approaches to design, the two cars actually use the same platform and hardware. You can have the car with either a single motor that sends 225bhp to the rear wheels, or with an additional motor that brings 321bhp and four-wheel drive. The former starts at around £47,000 and does 0-62mph in 7.4 seconds, while the latter trims the sprint time down to 5.1 seconds in return for a premium of around £3,500. In this CarGurus UK video, Vicky Parrott takes a look at the new car's quality, practicality, technology, value for money, and of course, what it's like to drive.
