In an homage to famous Irish poet Yeats W.B. Yeats, Irish locals read the poem "When You Are Old."Yeats lived in a space where history, myth, legend, magic, and reality all seemed to swirl around him as one big here and now, moving forward, and drawing the past into the present.

[ William Butler Yeats ]
Born: 1865 | Nobel Prize in Literature: 1923 | Died: 1939

Drumcliffe, County Sligo is set against the striking backdrop of the Benbulben Mountains. It is best known as the final resting place of W.B. Yeats.

Found in the churchyard, his grave is marked with a simple headstone with the inscription, "cast a cold eye on life, on death, horseman, pass by." This was Yeats' self penned epitaph together with the instructions that the grave consist of "no marble, no conventional phrase". The graveyard also contains a high cross and nearby is the site of a 6th Century Columbian monastery.

Damien Brennan was our tour guide for the Yeats Experience. We went to his house and had a lovely morning learning about Yeats. We were joined by a local photographer Suzy McCanny. (https://twitter.com/SuzyMcCanny)

Yeats Sligo Ireland revolves around Damien’s family home, Broc House, situated on Damien’s maternal home farm and in a spectacular site overlooking Lough Gill.

Damien’s maternal family, the Gallaghers, have lived on the farm at Broc House since at least 1824 and he has a deep understanding of the social, cultural and political history of Sligo and Ireland In addition, Damien has a life long interest in the Yeats family and especially the poet brother William Butler. Like the Yeats children he was born in Dublin but from an early age escaped to Sligo as often as possible …as did they! He remarks that had the poetry not all been written already he might be famous! Instead he and Paula combine their passion for fine food, entertaining and the poetry, culture and heritage of Sligo into a wonderful evening.
