In our industry we focus a lot on creativity. But professional design practice requires more than brilliant ideas. To understand our clients' problems and deliver the right solutions requires research, analysis, and structured and strategic thinking. Mark Porter during his speech talks about how studying Modern Languages at Oxford, and learning from his mentors, peers, and collaborators, helped him become a better designer.

Mark Porter:
Mark Porter is a British publication designer and art director, and former creative director of The Guardian. In 2010 he set up Mark Porter Associates, working for a list of high profile clients across print, broadcast, and digital media. In the last 8 years, MPA has helped some of Europe's most prestigious content brands to adapt to the connected world. Mark's projects have won the highest honours in the industry, including the legendary D&AD Black Pencil, and have been exhibited in the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London.
