TEDxHilo - Nancy Redfeather - Education for the Future School Gardens and Sustainability Education

Nancy Redfeather has been a class teacher, science specialist, and organic gardener for 45 years. She and her husband Gerry Herbert have created an experimental/educational mini-farm at Kawanui, Honalo where they have given community gardening classes since 2002 in home vegetable production,and coffee and orchard production using organic practices. Her son Travis attends college in Honolulu.
She coordinated the Hawai'i Island Food Summit in October 2007 and currently is the Program Director for The Kohala Center's Hawai'i Island School Garden Network and a member of the statewide Farm to School and School Garden Hui.
She also coordinated the "Hua Ka Hua -- Restore Our Seed" Public Seed Symposium held in April 2010 in Kona that has led to the new Hawai'i Public Seed Initiative and their newest educational program, of 2-day workshops on 5 Islands "Seed Basics For Farmers and Gardeners." She is on the Board of the Organic Farmers and Trade Association and the Green Schools Foundation.
