Stop, look, think, and then, maybe you can do | Xavier Vilalta | TEDxZurich

video thumbnail
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. "Xavier Vilata grew up in the countryside of Catalonia, Spain. His grandfather taught him this extremely simple but important life lesson: “You should stop, look, think, and then, maybe you can do.” Those words continue to influence him as an architect. He learned how to observe and take advantage of existing resources to improve the environment, creating something new.
From his native Spanish countryside to remote locations in Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia, he designs architectural projects as ecosystems that combine tradition, nature, and technology. His designs consider the impact of architecture in people's lives and find a better connection between nature and people. He aims to improve local communities and economies by finding simple yet affordable solutions that enhance the relationship between community and environment."

“We aim to find a better connection between nature and people, thinking about our community life being part of the environment, where Architecture grows from the natural climate conditions and traditions.”

Xavier Vilalta is the founder and director of Vilalta Arquitectura. Despite his youth, he is already a distinguished international architect specializing in sustainability. His work combines innovative technology with local resources and culture to create contemporary designs that suit their environment.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
