Zafar E Jinn (ra), also known as Zaafar E Jinn or Jafar E Jin or Zafer Jinn, was a historical Islamic figure. He was a Shia Jinn, who became Shia after the famous battle of Jang E Beerul Alam in which Imam Ali (as) fought jinnat upon the orders of Prophet Muhammad (as). The date of the battle was 10th Muharram in Imam Ali's time. On the 10th of Muharram in Karbala, the leader of jinnat, Zafar-e-jin was informed by two of his servants about the battle of Karbala in the year 61 AH. The city, best known as the location of the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE, or the shrines of Imam Husayn and Abbas,[8][9] is considered a holy city for Shia Muslims, in the same way as Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. Most of the pilgrims travel on foot from all around Iraq and more than 56 countries.[15]

Hundreds of thousands of Shia Muslim pilgrims have converged on the Iraqi city of Karbala to commemorate the Arbaeen, the end of the 40-day mourning period for the death of Imam Hussein, Prophet Muhammad’s grandson.

Pilgrims on Tuesday beat their heads and chests in ceremonial rituals around the city’s iconic Imam Hussein Shrine.

The pilgrims arrived in Karbala from Baghdad, Basra and other parts of the Shia Muslim world, most of them walking long distances as part of the pilgrimage.

The festival is thought to be one of the largest regular gatherings in the world, dwarfing all other pilgrimages, including the Hajj.
