Paris panorama from the Pont de Notre Dame on Bastile Day

video thumbnail
You already know that the Pont de Notre Dame crosses the River Seine. But did you know that it is known as the oldest bridge in Paris? To be precise, not the current bridge, but there has been a bridge at this point longer than any other.

This video was recorded on Bastille Day 2013. The absence of traffic was wonderful. My wife and I were passing through on our way from a holiday down south, to back home via Calais. Heather loves Paris. In fact we spent the weekend we got engaged in Paris. It can be an expensive city to stay in, so we try to find a Formule Hotel on the outskirts and take the metro into the city. Heather and I like these budget hotels, which you find along the French autoroutes. We both think they are good value for money, if all you need is a clean room to sleep and hot water in the showers.

The building with the towers you can see is called the Conciegerie , which is a former prison. Bastille Day in Paris makes for a quiet city, as there is very little traffic on the streets, you can take time just to look around and saviour the sights. July 14th 2013 was a wonderful, hot summer day. Citizens and tourists, can be seen just meandering around under the hot sun.
