About 10-20 percent of breast cancers are triple-negative breast cancer, a type of cancer in which the cells do not contain receptors for estrogen, progesterone or HER2. While this type of cancer is typically aggressive and is not treatable by the same number of targeted medicines as other forms of breast cancer, it is treatable – especially when discovered early, which is why regular screenings and examinations are important. In a recent panel discussion moderated by Nyota Stoker, manager of TriHealth’s Mobile Mammography and Community Outreach program, Amie Jackson, MD, with the TriHealth Cancer Institute and Susan Weinberg, MD, with TriHealth Imaging, were joined by Pat Lee, a survivor of triple negative breast cancer who is affiliated with The Erica J. Holloman Foundation Inc. The group shared more information about the cancer, its options for treatment and the importance of regular screenings for early detection.
