The SAAB Kockums Blekinge-class Submarine, commonly known as the A26 type, is the next generation of submarines designed by Kockums for the Swedish Navy. The project, which was planned at the beginning of the 1990s and given the name "U-båt 2000," was supposed to be completed by the end of the 1990s or the 2000s. However, with the end of the Cold War, the Soviet Union no longer posed a naval danger, and the new class of submarines was "deemed unnecessary." Finally, it was announced in March 2015 that the Swedish government restarted the project and had formally placed an order for two A26 submarines at a total cost of SEK 8.2 bn (roughly $945 Million).
