Typhoon Rai, named Odette in the Philippines, is still intensifying as it closes in on the Visayas region of the Philippines. Intensification could ramp up on the storm's final approach, with the storm likely to reach Category 2 status by landfall. This means that severe impacts are possible for southern Samar, Leyte, Dinagat, and Surigao, with further impacts to the west extending towards Cebu, Bacolod, and Iloilo. Rai may intensify again to reach a stronger second peak in the South China Sea as a Category 3 storm, before rapidly weakening off the coast of Vietnam.

Currently, the storm has sustained winds of around 80mph (128kph), with higher gusts. These winds are expected to reach 100mph (160kph) by the time it makes landfall, with further intensification possible.
