The biggest night in fashion honored Old Hollywood glitz–and certain celebrities shone brighter than ever on the red carpet.

The Met Gala resumed its regular schedule on Monday evening, when the museum staged its philanthropic event on the first Monday of May, attracting some of the world's top stars, who embraced Old Hollywood elegance and commemorated the Gilded Age.

The theme for this year was a continuation of last year's, with the event organized to commemorate the opening of part two of the same exhibition, 'In America: An Anthology of Fashion.' This section of the show looks at the evolution of American fashion through narratives that relate to the complicated and layered histories of those locales. According to the news release, the organization invited guests to pay "thoughtful reverence to American heritage," while the invitations advised "white tie" and "gilded glamour."

👗Kim Kardashian in vintage Jean-Louis
Kim Kardashian is quickly becoming the red carpet sensation to watch at the Met Gala. Following last year's headline-making Balenciaga moment and 2019's custom-made Mugler look, the reality star made headlines in 2022 for a completely different cause, donning the legendary dress that Marilyn Monroe wore to sing 'Happy Birthday, Mr. President' to John F Kennedy in 1962. Jean-Louis originally designed the gown – and Kardashian had to drop weight in order to fit into the gown (which could not be adjusted), while also dying her hair Monroe's famed platinum blonde to fully commit to the image. Once inside, Kardashian changed into a duplicate gown in order to avoid tarnishing the renowned piece of fashion history.

👘Blake Lively in Versace
The Met Gala is designed for outrageous fashion moments, which Blake Lively certainly embraced on Monday evening, arriving in one gown that was immediately unwrapped on the Met's steps to show another underneath. The blue highlights paid homage to the Statue of Liberty, while the golden design represented the Empire State Building, both of which were inspired by New York City's architecture.

🌸Tessa Thompson in Carolina Herrera
We adore a large ballgown, and none was bigger than Tessa Thompson's at this year's Met Gala. The actress stole the stage in a massive, fluffy pink Carolina Herrera gown that made quite an entrance on those famed steps. The garment, designed by Wes Gordon, included 200 meters of gathered tulle and an external corset, which responded to the theme nicely.

💃Gigi Hadid in Versace
Gigi Hadid, who made quite an entrance in the custom Versace look, wore another combination that was all about volume. The supermodel wore a burgundy latex catsuit with a massive, floor-length puffer coat.

🖤Gemma Chan in Louis Vuitton
Gemma Chan always knows how to work the red carpet – and for this year's Met Gala, the British star's custom Louis Vuitton gown, complete with sequins and a dramatic bustle skirt, was ideal.

🌹Jessica Chastain in Gucci
Jessica Chastain was all about old-school glamour for the 2022 Met Gala, which was just appropriate for the occasion. The actress looked stunning in a burgundy sequin gown from Gucci, with dramatic sleeves and a matching headpiece.
