RWJBarnabas Health Recognizes New Jersey's Third Annual Maternal Health Awareness Day

In 2017, New Jersey became the first state in the nation to designate a day calling for action to raise public awareness about maternal health and promote maternal safety, and RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) marked the third annual statewide observance of Maternal Health Awareness Day on Thurs., January 23, 2020, across our system.

In recognition of Maternal Health Awareness Day, our facilities hosted education events for health care providers and the public to help increase awareness of maternal health issues within their communities.

“We are committed to improving maternal health outcomes. With eight facilities where women can deliver children, we deliver close to 24,000 babies a year. We work closely with each of those facilities to ensure we have standardization and best practices in place across our system for our new and expectant mothers,” said Dr. John F. Bonamo, Executive Vice President, Chief Medical and Quality Officer of RWJBarnabas Health. “When a woman chooses to give birth at an RWJBarnabas Health hospital, our highly skilled and dedicated multidisciplinary teams ensure that quality care and patient experience are a top priority. In fact, in 2019 each of our hospitals saw a reduction in key quality indicators for care, including cesarean section rates, episiotomy rates and early elective delivery rates.”
