Máire O'Keeffe, Frankie Gavin (Fiddles) & Jackie Daly on the Box from the Willie Clancy Summer School,Miltown Malbay,County Clare.

Máire O'Keeffe comes from Tralee, Co. Kerry and is presently a Ph D student at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in the University of Limerick studying "The role of the button accordion in Irish Traditional Music". She is well known as a traditional fiddle player with her repertoire including music from such varied traditions as Sliabh Luachra, Donegal, Shetland and Cape Breton. She is also very involved in teaching traditional fiddle playing and Máire's method of teaching traditional music was studied by Dr. Kari Veblen for her doctoral thesis "Perceptions of Change and Stability in the Transmission of Irish Traditional Music: An Examination of the Music Teacher's Role" at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. in 1991.

Since the early eighties Máire has performed and given fiddle workshops at many festivals including Lorient Interceltique Festival in Brittanny, Celtic Festival in Vigo, Galicia, Edinburgh and Shetland Folk Festivals Glendale and Esksoni fiddle Festivals in Cape Breton. In 1995 and 1996 Máire taught the fiddle class at the Milwaukee Irish Fest summer school held in the University of Milwaukee and she performed at the festival following the summer school. She has also played at the Gaelic Roots festival in Boston College, at the Green Linnet Festival in New York and was invited to be a visiting teacher at the Celtic Ceilidh Trail summer school in Inverness, Cape Breton in 1996.

During 1992 / 93 Máire spent nine months in Australia at the invitation of "The Sydney Irish Musicians". Her time there was spent teaching Irish traditional music in Sydney and travelling to perform and give workshops at festivals in Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales.

"Cóisir/ House Party" is Máire's first solo recording. This album was recorded in Cape Breton Island and released on the Gael Linn Label. Other recordings include an album with the all women group Macalla in 1985 titled "Mná na hÉireann". Máire also featured on an album "The week before Easter" by Kevin Coneff of the Chieftains and has recorded with Carlos Nunez and the group Mattocongrio from Galicia in Northern Spain. In 1995 she was a guest musician on "Domhnach 's Dalach", an album from accordion player, Jackie Daly. In January 1997 with Jackie Daly, Dónal O'Connor and John Faulkner, Máire completed a recording of material from the Joyce Collection which is due for release in 1997.
