Katana is a Japanese sword characterized by curved body and sharpness. The origin of the sword was made in the Kofun period (3rd ~7th century). When samurai came into power in the Heian period (about 10th century), mass production of Katana began. In the Edo period, katana became a symbol and soul of samurai. They wished to possess the highest quality and techniques to produce blades were refined. Now, Kanata is classified as art objects and only specialist who have national license are allowed to make them.
