Horseback Archery or Yabusame by Empty Mind Films

video thumbnail
This is Japanese archery on horseback known as Yabusame (流鏑馬). This was filmed in November 2009 at the Meiji Shrine, Japan. Yabusame was created as archery practice for the Samurai, to sharpen their skills during peace time. It is said by some historians that the warriors would also use dogs as target practice, called inuoumono and like Yabusame, the arrows were padded so few dogs were actually hurt. This video clip is taken from a full length film release planned for 2010, on the art of Japanese archery or Kyudo.
