On November 30, 2021, we invited Chad Wellmon, professor of German studies and history at the University of Virginia, to discuss the future of the humanities and continuing education with Zoë Eisenman and Seth Green of the Graham School at the University of Chicago. Over the course of the conversation, they discuss Chad's new book "Permanent Crisis: The Humanities in a Disenchanted Age," and his recent essay for The Point, “Degrees of Anxiety,” and examine together why the humanities have been in perpetual crisis. They also broach the future of humanistic education, amid rapid technological and economic change, and humanities education for adult learners is expanding.
Co-sponsored by the University of Chicago Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies as part of their shared commitment to the future of the humanities. |
